Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Filing, 8/29/2025
Spirit management officially filed for a second Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Filing today at 4pm ET.
Our operations are not changing today. Go to work as you normally would and know that as you do the whole union is with you.
Your Spirit AFA Officers, AFA International Officers, and our legal experts at AFA International are engaged to ensure we have the best representation possible to mitigate harm and protect the interests of Spirit Flight Attendants. This bankruptcy will be harder and look different than last year, but we will keep you closely informed and stick together as we move forward.
“First day orders” in court will be on Tuesday, September 2. Our union has retained bankruptcy counsel and we will work to get on the creditors committee to give us better standing in the court proceedings.
We anticipate management will offer additional EVTOs and other leave options. Per Section 16 of our contract, management must offer voluntary furlough before they could move forward with involuntary furloughs. As we communicated a few weeks ago, we urge you to take an honest look at your personal situation, examine all your options, and prepare for all possible scenarios. Read this article from your AFA EAP for steps on how to assess your financial status.
AFA Communications will handle any media inquiries. If you receive a direct request, you can direct them to press@afacwa.org instead.
We are being direct because even as we have many ways to fight because of our union, we also want to get you the truth about the situation at our airline and how each of us can take actions to protect and prepare ourselves for any challenge.
AFA EAP is available 24/7 at 800-424-2406. Stay close to union communications and know we are not alone.
