What to Expect Next
Dear Spirit Flight Attendants,
We wanted to give you a brief update on the next steps to expect following our agreement in principle with Spirit management that we reached last night. Over the next week, we will be finalizing the contract language to ensure all details accurately reflect what was agreed upon at the table.
We are not able to release the full details until all workgroups finalize their Section 1113 negotiations. Once the full agreement is finalized and reviewed, we will provide the full details to all members and announce a roadshow schedule to walk through the terms before a ratification vote.
Let’s be clear: None of us asked for this bankruptcy, but it is our reality. This is the next step in a painful process that will determine whether Spirit will get the funding to continue operations. In any other condition, we would not engage in these negotiations. This is the choice in front of us: negotiate to minimize the cost savings under our control or allow the management to get approval from the bankruptcy court to make cuts without our involvement or say.
We already have 546 Flight Attendants on voluntary furlough and about 1,300 set to be involuntarily furloughed on December 1st. Hundreds of Flight Attendants are back on reserve. Flight hours are scarce. We are all feeling the impacts of this bankruptcy already and we’re not out of it yet.
Our solidarity will see us through. Your AFA Spirit Leaders along with our entire union are here for you. Our AFA EAP is here for you. More details soon.
In Solidarity,
Spirit AFA and AFA Legal
