A Message from your MEC President Regarding VPF

Dear Spirit Flight Attendants,

Spirit Airlines is currently facing significant challenges, which undoubtedly create uncertainty about its future. None of us wants to be in this situation, and it's normal to feel a loss of control during tough times. Your well-being is my top priority as we work together to navigate these issues. Please take a moment to breathe and focus on self-care, as no one understands your needs better than you. If you're looking to regain control over your situation, the VPF (Voluntary Furlough Program) may be a way to achieve this during these uncertain times.

To be eligible for the furlough, you must be above the furlough line. However, as more people who are above this line choose the furlough option, the line will lower, allowing more individuals to participate in VPF. Your decision could create opportunities for your fellow flying partners to continue flying.

VPF is an option for those who feel ready to take a break. This program allows you to focus on what matters most, explore new paths, or simply take some time to recharge. If recent changes or uncertainties feel overwhelming, or if you're unsure about your next steps, I encourage you to trust your instincts and consider this opportunity.

Many of you, including those at mid-level seniority, will be returning to RESERVE, some for the first time in years. I understand that this transition can be intimidating, especially for commuters or anyone who finds reserve life unacceptable. Please take a moment to reflect on what works best for you. This furlough may provide the much-needed breathing room during this uncertain period.

The BID for VPF CLOSES tomorrow at 12:00 NOON Eastern Time.   FLICA Open time will occur around that time, and we all know what happens when it does. If you are interested, don't wait until the last minute.

You are not alone in this. EAP is always available to provide a listening ear, resources, and guidance. Your local AFA leaders are also here to support you with answers and encouragement. Please don't hesitate to reach out to EAP or your local AFA leaders if you need someone to talk to or help navigate these changes.

Thank you for your hard work and dedication each day. Everyone at AFA supports you as you make the best choices for yourself. If you have any questions about the furlough process, your local AFA leaders and EAP are available to provide you with clear answers.

With all care, gratitude, and Solidarity,

Michael Harris

MEC President AFA-CWA Spirit Airlines
