A Message from your President

Dear Spirit Flight Attendants,

There’s no easy way to say it, but things feel heavy right now. Between bankruptcy news, furloughs, and all the chatter about what might happen next, it’s completely understandable if emotions are running high. Many of us may feel anxious, drained, and uncertain about what’s ahead. Please know you’re not alone in that.

In the middle of all this, it’s more important than ever to remember who we are and what connects us. We’re a family of flight attendants who have always leaned on each other when things get tough. AFA is here to support you every step of the way, but the most significant source of strength we have comes from each other.

Out on the line, tensions can build fast. This is a gentle reminder to take a breath and lead with kindness. Check in with yourself and your crew. Things like grabbing a coffee for your flying partner who is running on empty, checking in with a sincere “how are you holding up?”, or sharing praise and smiles. Even the smallest gesture can turn someone’s day around and spread positivity.

We’ve also heard from a few of you that the atmosphere out on the line has felt tense lately, and that’s understandable. But let’s do our best to lift each other rather than break each other down. We can’t control the news or the rumors, but we can control how we treat the people standing next to us in the galley. That’s where our power is.

If you find yourself feeling burned out, take a moment to pause and breathe. Try grounding yourself before a flight or reflecting on one small thing you’re grateful for each day. Sometimes, the simplest moments, like a laugh with a coworker, a calm flight, or a quiet sunrise above the clouds, can remind us why we love what we do.

No matter what comes next, we’ll get through this together just like we always have. We are strong, resilient, and stand in solidarity. Spirit Flight Attendants have faced challenging moments before and come out stronger on the other side, and this time will be no different.

Take care of yourselves and each other. Be kind, stay grounded, and keep showing up with the heart that defines the Spirit Flight Attendant group.

With care and solidarity,

Michael Harris
