Virtual Review Meetings & Ratification Timeline

Our contract is the product of years of hard bargaining and sacrifice. The proposed changes are extremely hard to take in. None of this is easy, and none of it is taken lightly.

We must be clear-eyed about the choice in front of us and the reality of Spirit’s financial situation. This bankruptcy is not only about a restructuring of the company’s debt, it is about whether the debtors believe Spirit can survive.

We know you have a lot of questions. We want to answer them so you can be confident when you cast your vote.

Virtual Review Meetings

The Spirit AFA MEC, made up of all six local presidents and your MEC officers, AFA General Counsel and Director of Collective Bargaining Joe Burns, AFA Financial Analyst Dan Akins, and AFA Staff Attorney Michael Hickey will host virtual meetings to review the details of the proposed contract changes and answer your questions.

RSVP NOW to a virtual review meeting:

When you RSVP add your question(s) in the registration form. We’re working on scheduling additional meetings before the vote opens.

Ratification Timeline

The company is in Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Section 1113 of the bankruptcy code requires negotiations prior to management asking the court to abrogate our contract. We have the opportunity now to vote on these terms and management must continue to adhere to the contract. If these terms are not approved by the members and the court approves abrogation of the contract, then management can make the changes as they determine to make them.

This vote is about minimizing the cost cutting and keeping control in our hands — instead of ceding control to the courts or management. We fought hard to protect our base pay and prevent changes to our healthcare. We spelled out snapbacks so that if the company recovers, we do too.

Our solidarity is the only way forward. Look out for each other and know your AFA Spirit Leaders along with our entire union are here for you. Our AFA EAP is here for you always.

In Solidarity,

Your Spirit AFA MEC
