Master Executive Council Air Safety, Health, & Security Chairperson
In most cases, the flight attendant who has been elected or appointed Master Executive Council (MEC) Air Safety, Health and Security Chairperson has spent several months or years as an LEC Air Safety, Health and Security Chairperson and already knows the "ins and outs" of that position.
The MEC Safety Chair coordinates with management personnel at their airline's headquarters as well as with their airline's assigned FAA Principal Operations Inspector, Principal Maintenance Inspector, and Cabin Safety Inspector (POI, PMI, and CSI, respectively). The MEC Safety Chair is also the primary contact for other agencies relative to concerns or questions. Although the LEC Safety Chairs are automatically members of the MEC Safety Committee, the MEC Safety Chair may request additional individuals to assist in their committee activities.
The MEC Safety Chair will consult with the International Office AFA-CWA Air Safety, Health, and Security Department on a regular basis regarding policies, procedures, strategies, and specific problems. This happens monthly via zoom and yearly in person for Roundtables.
The MEC Safety Chair should plan quarterly meetings with all members of the local committee.
The MEC Safety Chair meets with the company Safety Department, Regulatory Compliance Department, and training quarterly*.
The MEC Safety Chair participates in the IFMC meetings (Fatigue) monthly.
The MEC Safety Chair will participate in Monthly or as needed ASAP meetings once the program in agreed upon with Management and AFA-CWA.

The biggest difference between the position of the MEC Safety Chair and the LEC Safety Chair is the expanded scope and range of contacts that the MEC position brings with it.
